Artist's Statement

I have been a representational artist for twenty-five years. As a retired healthcare professional, I am now able to devote more time to the creative process.

I am fascinated by the endless variations of color, shape, and light that are present in nature. The delicate petals of a flower, the contours of a leaf, the splendor of a sunset or sunrise create studies in color, shape, and light. In my paintings, I strive to capture the brilliant colors and the effects of light in the scene I am creating.

I work with soft pastels because they produce vibrant, eye-catching colors. They offer a medium that adds vitality to my paintings. More than most media, they allow me to paint with energetic variations in hue and contrast.

My objective is to utilize the medium to create lasting images that convey an emotional response to the beauty present in our world.
